Are you an Indian traveler tired of waiting in long immigration lines at U.S. airports? If so, you're not alone. Global Entry can save you valuable time and streamline your travel experience. In this guide, we'll walk you through how Indian citizens can successfully apply for Global Entry, from start to finish.

What is Global Entry?

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler Program that provides expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers. It also includes TSA PreCheck for faster domestic security screening. Once approved, your membership is valid for five years.

Who is Eligible?

Indian citizens can apply for Global Entry if they:

  • Hold a valid Indian passport

  • Have a valid U.S. visa or green card

  • Have no criminal background

  • Are willing to undergo background checks by both Indian and U.S. governments

Step 1: Create a TTP Account

  1. Go to ttp.dhs.gov

  2. Create an account under Trusted Traveler Programs

  3. Select Global Entry and begin your application

  4. Fill in personal details, employment history, travel history, and documents (passport, visa, etc.)

  5. Pay the $120 non-refundable application fee

Step 2: Register on VFS Global for Indian Background Check

Since Indian citizens must pass an additional background check by the Indian government:

  1. Go to VFS Global's Global Entry page

  2. Register and select your consulate based on U.S. state jurisdiction

  3. Fill out the VFS background verification application (7 pages)

  4. Upload required documents: Indian passport, proof of address, GE application number

Step 3: Gather and Submit Required Documents

  • Printed VFS application form

  • Proof of address in the U.S. (driver’s license or notarized utility bill)

  • Two passport-size photos (2x2 inches, white background)

  • Print your checklist and attach it to your application package

Step 4: Pay the Background Verification Fee

  • Log in to the VFS portal

  • Create a new application, select your consulate, and pay via credit/debit card

  • Choose VFS FedEx shipping to simplify the mailing process

Step 5: Mail Your Application Package

  • Print the FedEx label provided

  • Mail your complete application using only the provided label to avoid extra charges

Step 6: Know Your Jurisdiction

Find the correct Indian consulate for your state (San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, New York, or Washington DC) using the VFS website.

Step 7: Schedule Your Global Entry Interview

Once conditionally approved:

  • Log in to your TTP account

  • Book your interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center near you

Step 8: Prepare for the Interview

Bring the following documents:

  • Indian passport

  • U.S. visa or green card

  • Conditional approval letter

  • Clearance certificate from Indian govt

  • Driver’s license or other ID with current address

  • Utility bill if license address is outdated

  • Review your application and be ready to discuss employment, travel history, and purpose of applying. If your answers differ from your application during the interview, it will delay the process further. Therefore, it is very important to review your application before the interview.

Step 9: Attend the Interview

  • Arrive 15–20 minutes early; You will need to go through airport security check

  • Bring all documents

  • Interview includes a document review, fingerprinting, photo, and brief Q&A

  • If approved, your Global Entry card will be mailed within 2–3 weeks

Step 10: Enjoy the Benefits!

Once approved, you’ll receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) for TSA PreCheck and Global Entry benefits. Update your airline profiles with this number for expedited travel.

Final Thoughts on Global Entry for Indian Citizens

While the process may seem lengthy, the time saved at immigration and security lines is well worth the effort. If you’re an Indian citizen traveling frequently to the U.S., this program is a smart investment in convenience.
