My Pain: A Journey to Connection and Strength

I woke up like I always do-same routine, same thoughts, same quiet dread.

Brush my teeth. Drink my smoothie. Get ready for school.

And hate every second of it.

The Invisible Girl

School wasn’t just a place for learning. For me, it felt like a constant reminder that I didn’t belong.

I’m an introvert-more than that, I struggle to talk to people. Even making eye contact feels overwhelming. While everyone else seemed to naturally fall into groups, laughing and talking like it was effortless, I stood on the outside… watching.

How do you even make friends? Do I actually have to socialize?

The other girls were confident, beautiful, full of personality. I felt like the exact opposite—awkward, quiet, invisible.

Every step I took into school felt heavier than the last, like the crowd kept growing, closing in. My therapist always told me I wasn’t alone in feeling this way.

But if that’s true…why does it feel like I am?

The Endless Routine

Class after class, day after day-I got used to it.

Used to being alone.Used to eating lunch by myself.Used to weekends that felt exactly the same.

People say things like, “It just takes time.”

But when you're the one waiting, time doesn’t feel comforting. It feels endless.

Therapy didn’t help much either- or at least, that’s what I told myself. Sure, I had someone to talk to… but I never really opened up. It was easier to pretend I was fine.

And then go home and cry in silence.

A Conversation That Changed Everything

“Hi Yui, how are you feeling today?”

My therapist, Sakura, always greeted me warmly. She was kind. Almost too perfect. And I always gave the same answer:

“I’m fine.”

Even when I wasn’t.

That day felt like every other day.

Until it wasn’t.

The Girl Named Ren

Lunch was different.

A girl sat next to me.

She smiled and waved.

“Hi, my name is Ren.”

I was confused. People didn’t just… talk to me.

“You look pretty dead,” she said, laughing softly. “So I’m here to revive you.”

I didn’t know whether to be offended or amused.

“Cool,” I replied—neutral, safe.

Then she asked something unexpected:

“Do you want to sit with my friends and me?”

My heart raced. This had to be a joke… right?

But it wasn’t.

A Seat at the Table

Ren led me to a table filled with people—Akina, Emmy, Hana, Hiro, Nakano.

“Everyone, this is Yui.”

I waved shyly, head down.

But something strange happened.

We talked.We laughed.

And for the first time in a long time…I felt like I belonged somewhere.

Maybe… I Could Have Friends

That day stayed with me.

Walking home, I kept imagining different futures—ones where I wasn’t alone anymore.

That’s when I heard someone call my name.

“Yui!”

It was Nano.

We barely knew each other, but she seemed nervous—just like me.

“Do you also have trouble talking to others?” I asked.

She nodded.

And just like that, something clicked.

Finding Someone Like Me

Nano came over to my house that day.

At first, we worked in silence. But slowly, conversation started to flow.

Weeks passed.

What started as awkward interactions turned into something real.

Ren. Nano. Emmy. Hana. Akina. Hiro. Nakano.

We became a group.

A real one.

The Truth I Didn’t See Before

One day, I walked into my mental health class and noticed something surprising.

My friends… were there too.

Each of them had their own struggles:

  • Anxiety

  • Anger

  • Difficulty expressing themselves

They weren’t as perfect as I had imagined.

They were just like me.

And suddenly, everything my therapist had been saying made sense.

You Are Not Alone

I always thought I was the only one struggling.

The only one who felt out of place.

The only one who couldn’t keep up.

But I was wrong.

We all carry something inside us—pain, fear, insecurity. Some hide it better than others.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

It Just Takes Time

Healing doesn’t happen overnight.

Friendships don’t either.

Sometimes, all it takes is one person—one conversation—one small moment—

to change everything.

A Quiet Realization

Pain doesn’t last forever.

And when it comes back, you’ll be stronger than before.

Struggles aren’t signs of weakness.

They’re proof that you’re trying.That you’re surviving.

That you’re stronger than you think.

And maybe… just maybe…

Someone out there is waiting to notice you too.
